Jesus has left clear instructions that those who profess faith in him and choose to follow him (to be his disciple) are to be baptised.
Baptism marks the beginning of a journey with God which continues for the rest of our lives, the first step in response to God’s love. It is a joyful moment when we rejoice in what God has done for us in Christ, making serious promises and declaring the faith. The wider community of the local church and friends welcome the new status of the Christian, promising support and prayer for the future.
At St Mary’s Church we offer infant and adult baptism. We also offer thanksgivings and dedications for children. Adults who were baptised as infants can reaffirm their baptismal promises in special services as well. We believe that baptisms is always best done in the context of the church family and to do this, we set aside the 2nd Sunday of each month for up to four infants to be brought by their parents and baptised at St Mary’s.
If you would like to explore baptism, or thanksgiving and dedication for your child (or wish to be baptised as an adult) please contact us and one of our clergy team will arrange to meet and chat with you.
